In The Spotlight - Craig Nash

Craig Nash How long have you been performing in shows
For about seven or eight years now.

What got you interested in music / theatre
I always had an interest in singing so auditiong for my school's 'Pop Idol' when i was ten. I haven't looked back since!

What was your first show
I played the Tin-Man in 'The Wiz' when I was twelve.

What has been your favourite show and/or character and why
I've been lucky enough to play a variety of characters in different shows from Transvestites to March Hares. But I have two favourites I can't choose between. The first one is Galileo in the Queen musical 'We Will Rock You!' Just having the opportunity to sing such iconic songs and get the audience on their feet is such an amazing experience! But I also had the privilege to pl ay Javert in 'Les Mis.' That was such an honour and something I'll never forget!

What has been your most embarassing or funniest moment in a show
When I played Galileo in 'We Will Rcok You,' at one point during the show I had to take a guitar out of 'the rock.' However on the first night it got stuck so I improvised the line, 'It's stuck in the damn rock!' Not an ideal cover up but I did get a round of applause!

Describe the best and worst costumes you have had to wear
My worst costume has to be when I played Nick Diablo in 'Disco Inferno.' Me being as skinny as I am, wearing an open, extremly camp looking shirt isn't a pleasant experience! My best has to be either my costume for Doody the T-Bird in 'Grease,' as I loved wearing that jacket too much! Or my costume for Javert. I actually looked about fifty!

What has been your proudest moment
Either receiving a standing ovation for my performance of Galileo, Javert, or appearing in a show at the Nottingham Theatre Royal. It's pretty big!

If you could choose any show to perform in, what would it be and why
I've been lucky enough to already do a lot of shows I'd always wanted to do including ' We Will Rock You,' and 'Les Miserables.' But I would love to do Jospeh, Moulin Rogue and West Side Story, which we're doing next!!!

Do you have any plans to pursue theatre as a career
I plan to audition for various stage schools over the Autumn and hopefully gain a place somewhere! Fingers Crossed!
