In The Spotlight - Jodie Brackett

I joined a local drama/dance group at the age of 3 and I haven't stopped wanting to perform since.
What got you interested in music / theatre
When I was very young I watched 'Singing in the rain' on television and from that moment I was hooked on Musical theatre. I love how music and dance can lift you when you are feeling low and when you are acting, no matter what is happening in your life, you become the character and leave it all behind.
What was your first show
The first show I remember being in was The Wizard of Oz, I was playing a Munchkin. I must have been around 4 years old at the time. As we were dancing around the wicked witch, who was lying dead on the floor, the girl who was leading us tripped over the witch's broom and we all fell on top of her. I remember getting up and picking up the girls one by one and carrying on. 'The show must go on!' has been my motto ever since :)
What has been your favourite show and/or character and why
This is tough as I have so many favourite shows. However the most fun show I was in was Seussical the Musical. The show was full of colour and fun. I played The Sour Kangaroo which was such a very sassy character. The whole show week I couldn't stop smiling :) fun memories.
What has been your most embarassing or funniest moment in a show
I think I have too many embarassing moments on stage to tell you them all. For example- falling off the stage during a dance recital when I was a child, or smacking my head on a piece of staging during Cabaret, but at least looking back at them now, they make me smile :)
Describe the best and worst costumes you have had to wear
The worst one so far would have to be the fish costume I had to wear in Seussical. It was so tight it showed off every lump and bump, luckily Im so small I blended into the background behind the tall dancers.
The best one I think would be my kangaroo costume in the same show. I wore a lovely long coat and knee high boots, very sassy! :)
What has been your proudest moment
My proudest moment is being part of 'The Hired Man' with Greasepaint. I was lucky enough to play the lead, Emily, in the show. This part/show was a dream come true. I learnt so much about my own ability. I grew in confidence with the help of Shane and James. The whole cast was outstanding and I forged friends for life during that show. I was very very proud to be part of such an amazing show and cast.
If you could choose any show to perform in, what would it be and why
Les Misérables would be amazing, Chicago, Singing in the rain, Hairspray...there are so many.
Do you have any plans to pursue theatre as a career
I have always wanted to have a career in theatre. If someone spots me then that would be amazing, but Im happy and proud being part of such a talented theatre group, Its like being part of the West end!
