In The Spotlight - Daniel Kauss

The first show that I performed in must have been when I was in primary school in year 4, which was about 10 years ago now; then 7 years later in 2011 I took the step and auditioned for Greasepaint, which was one of the best decisions I ever made.
What got you interested in music / theatre
I can't pinpoint exactly when I became interested in theatre/music I have just always had a fascination with the performing arts.
What was your first show
My first show was Joseph way back in primary school. But my first show with Greasepaint was Carousel, which I found incredibly nerve-racking but I was so happy to be performing in such a talented company.
What has been your favourite show and/or character and why
Perter Pan would have to be my favourite show. Just being in the show emulated happiness which definitely seemed to reflect onto the audience. Peter Pan was also the first show I ever saw live and I remember seeing, hearing and feeling the magic on stage all them years ago - so the show was very poignant for me.
What has been your most embarassing or funniest moment in a show
The funniest and also the most embarrassing moment could possibly be when in the Hind Leys show of Beauty and the Beast, while standing and singing on a table, it collapsed under me.
Describe the best and worst costumes you have had to wear
Well, the worst costume would have to be the hunch costume in Seussical, it was a black, skin tight onesie from head to toe!
But I've had many great costumes probably the best one was the green suit that I wore in Jekyll & Hyde.
What has been your proudest moment
The two moments that stand out - being cast as Harry Tallentire for Greasepaint's 20th anniversary show and more recently, getting the opportunity to be able to train at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts (AADA) in New York City!
If you could choose any show to perform in, what would it be and why
There's so many! Hmm, probably a split between The Roar of The Greasepaint The Smell of The Crowd and RENT!
Do you have any plans to pursue theatre as a career
Yes, as I mentioned above I've be accepted to AADA which I'm very excited about and hopefully with a lot of hard work and determination I'll be able to pursue a career in theatre.
