In The Spotlight - Charlotte Dolling

Charlotte Dolling How long have you been performing in shows
I've been performing since I was at school in various shows and then after coming back from university I joined local musical theatre groups again.

What got you interested in music / theatre
I've always loved theatre from a young age and think it was watching the old Hollywood musicals that gave me a love for performance.

What was your first show
The first show I was in was Sunmer Holiday at school and I played the role of Barbara. It was so much fun having a bus on stage and it really gave me the bug to want to perfom more and more

What has been your favourite show and/or character and why
I have a huge place in my heart for Avenue Q as I played the role of Gary Coleman, something I think I will never be lucky enough to do again. I have however loved playing Polly in Crazy for You as its my first romantic lead & has really stretched me in terms of both my singing and dancing

What has been your most embarassing or funniest moment in a show
I think the funniest moment in a show for me is having to stand alone on stage as Miss Babs in Acorn Antiques whilst Morven Harrison as Mrs O pole vaulted a lamp behind the sofa. I really don't know how I didn't laugh more in that show

Describe the best and worst costumes you have had to wear
I think both of these have to been in suessical as my costume for Mayzie La Bird was amazing but dressing as a fish was pretty awful!!!

What has been your proudest moment
I think it is a combination of our final night in Avenue Q as I was so proud of what we had achieved as a company and also getting to play Polly with James Nelson in Crazy for You

If you could choose any show to perform in, what would it be and why
It has always been my favourite stage show as it is both challenging and hilarious but it would have to be Sally Bowles in Caberet

Do you have any plans to pursue theatre as a career
No but I would love to work with theatre companies again in the future.
